The exhibition of paintings called "Metaphysical Paintings" by Ivo Pecov was opened on October 20, 2020 at the Cultural and Information Center of the Republic of North Macedonia in Sofia (7 Oborishte Street), Bulgaria. On 20 canvases the author revealed the fruits of his activity during the last 12 months.
"This strange year has had serious consequences over our way of thinking and communicating. The paintings I present are an attempt to solve the riddle surrounding our sense of freedom. I express myself in them through my visual language having difficulty of being contemporary, while at the same time I am much more attracted by timelessness. Definitely our modern problem has influenced me to create paintings that treat my sense of isolation in our COVID-19 time. This time, which is a relative category, refers to space - to the objects and symbols that legitimize it and make it recognizable by experience. This setting location of time on the linearity of its flow, in my case is only hinted through deliberately chosen scarce symbols, which are to remind us for our contemporaneity while the only timelessness builds its creative reality. Our modernity (which will later be history) is allegedly here and allegedly exists, while only timelessness brings its creative reality.
Perhaps a significant part of the paintings I have created so far carry metaphysicality within them, because of my attitude to focus in the first place on metaphysical questions, such as: what is the role of man on Earth, what is really our ability to know reality and so on, but I called this exhibition this way because in all separate works there is a categorical unity in the aesthetic direction. In them I have sought the essence of materiality, form and time, seeking the answers beyond them, through pure consciousness. It is also an active search - a creative search and the product of it are these paintings and the exhibition that I present."
The opening of the exhibition held in compliance with the measures for dealing with COVID-19. In this sense, the number of visitors in the exhibition hall was regulated, in which it was necessary observing a distance of 1.5 meters between each of the visitors. Due to the size of the gallery, 10-12 visitors were allowed to attend at the same time and they were staing for a maximum of 20 minutes. Disinfectants were provided for the event, and assistants were ensuring that the event passes without gathering of many people in one place.
The official part of the evening was scheduled for 17:00, and visitors who came later were able to watch the video from the official address of the director of the Cultural and Informtion Center and the author.
